The Empty Red Chair is a visible reminder of the need to grow in numbers. The term Growth Groups implies a commitment to increase in numbers as well as in spiritual maturity. The early church began as a mega church with thousands being added to their number on the day of the birth of the church. However, every neighborhood continued to meet from house to house or, if you prefer, in small groups. Spiritual growth was an obvious side effect of obeying Acts 2:42.
Growth Groups assure that believers will always have a support group because sooner or later every believer will face some kind of crisis. Parenting, marriage, business and financial stresses are common to all believers. Living with the confidence and assurance that other believers are ready and able to stand with us is an important function of Growth Groups.
Growth Groups provide an accountability team whose primary purpose is to keep each other on track without being judgmental. Everything said and done is to edify each other (build up and strengthen each other). Great care is taken to avoid the natural temptation to criticize and devour each other.
